What is The Pen and Paper Society?
The Pen and Paper Society is a subscription story experience delivered via 24 beautifully illustrated letters, sent twice a month over the course of a year. Each series delivers immersive, character-driven fiction straight to your mailbox. Inside each envelope, you’ll find personal correspondence between characters—and occasional extras like postcards, telegrams, newspaper clippings, maps, and more—crafted to enrich your storytelling experience.
How much do the stories cost?
- The cost should be $8.97 and $99.
Shipping:
- U.S.: Free shipping.
- International: Shipping is calculated at checkout based on location and current rates. Customs fees may apply to the first tracked package sent.
How do I choose a story?
We currently offer a variety of richly themed series. Browse our series library and find the tale that inspires you most. You can explore full descriptions of each story on our library page.
What’s included in my subscription?
Each story includes:
- 24 letters mailed over 12 months
- Extras such as postcards, telegrams, newspaper clippings, stickers, maps, and more
- Historical context articles to enrich your understanding and connection to each era and narrative.
- Optional birthday and seasonal/holiday cards.
🔁 Subscription & Renewals
Does my subscription auto-renew?
No—each story is a standalone twelve-month series and does not auto-renew. When you're ready for your next adventure, simply return to our website to start another.
Can I subscribe to multiple stories at once?
Yes! You are welcome to begin one story at a time or subscribe to multiple series simultaneously.
🔁 Mailing & Delivery
When will I receive my first letter?
First letters ship within 1–3 business days via USPS Ground. Delivery typically takes 5–8 business days within the U.S. and 2–4 weeks internationally.
When are subsequent letters mailed?
Remaining letters are mailed on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month using standard mail (without tracking). Delivery is expected within 2 weeks (U.S.) or up to 6 weeks internationally.
Can I choose a future mail date?
Yes, reach us at
support@penandpapersociety.com for your custom mailing date. While you cannot select a specific future mailing date, we ensure your first letter ships quickly and subsequent drops follow a consistent twice-monthly schedule. Advance mailing scheduling for holidays may be offered occasionally.

Can I start late or join mid-series?
Absolutely! You’ll always begin with Letter One even if you start mid-year and receive all 24 letters over your first twelve months.

Are the stories family-friendly?
Yes, most our series are appropriate for general audiences with the exception of the Nightsong series.
Are there stories for younger readers?
Yes! We curate children’s series full of mystery, mythology, and magic. Browse the library to see the current series.
📦 Orders, Returns & Support
How do I order or gift a series?
Select a story, choose a subscription plan, and proceed to checkout. To gift, enter the recipient’s mailing address and your billing information. You can also order multiple gifts by completing separate checkout sessions.
Are there stories for younger readers?
If a letter or item hasn’t arrived within expected delivery windows, contact us at support@penandpapersociety.com with the following:
Order number or email used
Recipient’s name
Story title and item or letter number
Our team will assist within 1–3 business days.
Can I change my order?
Yes—contact us within 3 business days of placing your order to request changes. Please include your order number and the update needed.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes—we ship worldwide! Your first letter typically arrives within 2–4 weeks. Subsequent letters may take up to six weeks. International rates are calculated at checkout.

How does billing work?
- Prepaid Subscriptions: Charged once at purchase.
- Monthly Subscriptions: Automatically billed around your signup date each month.
Need to cancel?
- Monthly: You can cancel your subscription online, no password required.
- Prepaid: Email support to request cancellation. Include your order details.

Are your stories published in other languages?
Yes - translations of our series are provided for informational purposes only and is not intended to be a perfect or definitive translation. Some translations could be created using automated translation software and may contain inaccuracies. No warranties or guarantees are made regarding the accuracy, reliability, or correctness of this translation. The original short story is protected by copyright, and this translation is intended as a derivative work based on the original. Any unauthorized reproduction or distribution of this translation is prohibited.
